Hello! I’m Georgia, a Jane of all Trades in service to Jesus.
I was born in 1989 to a military family (go Navy!). My older sister and I were both born in Jackson, MS, but we didn’t live there long before dad’s orders took us to Pensacola, FL where my brother was born. We lived there a few years and then uprooted once again to Mandeville, LA where another sister came long in the great city of New Orleans. From there I lived my formative years in Greenwood, IN before finally moving to where I live now Tampa, FL.
Early Life & Family:
In addition to graduating from the Naval Academy, my dad has two MBAs and is a Seminary graduate. He and my mom were missionaries in Australia for a short time, and during their stay they discovered that mom was pregnant with me! I think it is no coincidence that I found myself in the mission field before I was even born. However, I am also the reason that my parents didn’t stay in the mission field. The Snow Family moved back to Jackson, MS for my birth and then eventually moved on to Louisiana.
It’s here that my story really begins, and it begins with the chicken pox. Everyone in the house contracted the chicken pox at the same time–even mom who was pregnant with my little sister Morgan. The virus greatly affected Morgan’s development and she was born premature with a few serious defects. In addition to not being able to stomach solid food, Morgan had scoliosis and her knees were each frozen in place. One was not able to bend and one was not able to straighten–at least not without a lot of help and physical therapy.
Morgan lived 3 wonderful years until she passed away after surgical complications. I remember saying goodbye to her in the hospital and then going home with family friends while my parents stayed behind to make the most impossible decision. Eventually my dad came home and announced that Morgan had gone to be with Jesus. While the rest of the room melted into tears, I remember thinking, “Wow! Morgan gets to see Jesus? In Heaven?? What could be better than that?” I was advised by those around me that in time I would understand the reason for their tears. And in time I did.
Morgan’s life and death continued to have a profound impact on me as I grew up. She is the reason I hold fast to God’s goodness. In spite of such sorrow, I was determined to view her passing as something that could be used for good. I told her story to anyone who would listen–and anyone who wouldn’t listen! I told my peers and teachers about the joy she gave to me, and the strength I gained from the knowledge that I will see her again one day.
After Morgan’s death, my family relocated to Greenwood, IN where I spent my formative years. Life in Greenwood was full of adventure and friendship. The friends that my brother and I met in elementary school followed us into high school and some remain my friends today. But my high school experience was interrupted in my Junior year by my mom wanting to move away from the Midwest and back down South. This coincided with my parent’s divorce and the manifestation of severe mental illness in my brother Kevin.
Education & Career:
Graduating from high school came with its own challenges, and a lot of uncertainty about where to go or what to do with my life. I briefly considered moving to another state to pursue a pilot’s license and to eventually become a missionary bush pilot. I had chosen a random Bible college somewhere in Colorado and was nearly going to apply, when a young man by the name of Christian took a certain interest in my plans.
It’s important to know that Christian was an atheist at the time, and that my devotion to Jesus made it impossible for us to have the relationship that we wanted to have. We became very close in a short time, but it was not meant to last. I knew Jesus was calling me closer to himself and so I said goodbye to Christian for a season in order to be completely available to whatever path Jesus intended for me. And wouldn’t you know it….about 9 months later that path took me back to Christian. In our time apart, he had fully devoted himself to Christ, joined a church, was playing in their band and attending small groups–even teaching small groups! Reuniting with Christian was the healing wind that I truly needed and we’ve been married now 10 years.
During that time, I was exploring my career interests at a local community college and found myself signing up for the two year Aquaculture program. I was fascinated by how much I never knew about fish! Aquaculture is an interest field that requires you to know a little bit from every scientific field, and I was never bored. I graduated with honors and a lot of new life experiences under my belt from participating in Student Government. But as anyone could guess: there is not a lot of money to be made as a fish farmer. I needed a good job and Jesus provided one through a friend at my church–the same church where Christian now played in the band: Cypress Point.
I was hired on as an internal sales representative for a small business that imported and exported building materials. The shipping was facilitated by an in-house NVOCC (non vessel operating common carrier) and I worked for that NVO for 6 years. In that time I graduated from cold calls to documentation. We acted as a freight carrier on paper and provided all of the other necessary documents as a free service. So even though I was not technically considered a freight forwarder, I worked in that capacity during those 6 years. This international experience provided a lot of good material for my Young Adult adventure novels! I was able to learn a whole new industry, and this knowledge never goes to waste as Christian and I step into an international lifestyle as missionaries.
I work now in domestic shipping for an online retail company that sells kitchen cabinets, and I can’t wait to begin my career as a full time missionary and author!
Creative Works:
I have been writing poetry, short stories and novels since I first learned how to type on a computer. (What a modern thing to say!) Writing has been my outlet for everything from grief to exploration of imaginary worlds. I finished my first adventure novel in 2018 and have been preparing it for publishing. Since I started this novel in high school, I feel that it’s time for me to rewrite it using the writing-voice that I’ve cultivated into adulthood.
As well as writing, Jesus has gifted me abundantly in every art form. When I was still small, I asked God for just a fraction of a percent of his pure creativity. I wanted to be able to imagine a “new idea” that had never existed in the world before, and I knew this was only possibly through the one source of limitless imagination and creativity: the creator of the universe! Jesus has not stopped answering that prayer, and I seem to have the ability to master whatever art form I set my mind to. My favorites however are paper craft and story telling! Right now I am learning a wide vocabulary of origami forms and hope to have many fun trinkets to sell on this site, in addition to some of my acrylic paintings, pencil sketches and illustrations.
Sometime soon you might even see a book of poetry for sale, or better yet the first novel in my budding saga: Flights of the Iron Finch!
